While 6-year-old Phoenix Rich was (and still is) courageously battling Fanconi Anemia and recovering from a recent bone marrow transplant, 136 children and adults gathered at Pickett County K-8 School last Saturday morning to walk 1 mile for Phoenix’s Fight. Phoenix’s Fight is an effort to assist in the relief of mounting expenses due to Phoenix’s long recovery period away from home in Cincinnati,Ohio. Phoenix’s Fight 1 Mile Kids Fun Run/Walk was sponsored and organized by Pickett Care & Rehabilitation Center. Other sponsors included Climax Spring Water and B&K Bi-Rite. Also, graciously contributing to the cause with gifts and assistance were Reggie’s Manufacturing, Byrdstown Dairy Queen, Pickett Farm Supply, Kyle Brown, Colene Nuszbaum, Cadle and Margaret Asberry, Bobbie McGinnis, Bro. Paul and Betty Simpson, and Walnut Grove Church in Albany, KY. Special Thanks to Pickett County Sheriff’s Department and Pickett County Highway Department for helping make the event safe and successful. Congratulations to all the participants. Your efforts successfully helped raise $3420.00 for Phoenix’s Fight. For more information regarding Fanconi Anemia please see www.fanconi.com.

Our family, along with families of our Mothers, joined together for afternoon refreshments and presentation of a flower to each Mother. A Special Recognition to our Oldest Mother, Opal McMillian, and our Youngest Mother, Sue Ratliff, whom each received a Certificate of Honor and bouquet of flowers. It was an honor for us here at PCR to help celebrate an amazing group of ladies! A Special Thank You to Dale Hollow Designs & Gifts for the beautiful flowers!
